An elderly man and his son have been found dead at their family home, with police saying it is a ‘highly distressing’ suspected murder-suicide. A 72-year-old man is believed to have killed his 46-year-old son at their Adelaide home before taking his own life, with police saying their deaths appear to be a tragic murder-suicide.
Police and paramedics were called to the Allerdice Court, West Lakes property at 1.30pm and found the men unresponsive. CPR was attempted, but they were both pronounced deceased. Detectives from Western District CIB and Major Crime Investigation Branch and forensic crime scene investigators attended the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
“The investigation is in its early stages, but it is believed the elderly man killed his son before taking his own life,” SA Police said in a statement. “This is a highly distressing incident, and the family has advised police that they do not wish to speak to the media at this time.”
Police are preparing a report for the state coroner. They urge anyone experiencing family violence or with concerns for their safety or the safety of other family members or friends to contact police on 131 444 or triple-0 in an emergency.
